A really nice conversation with an old friend and ..a very tall friend. George the Giant. The Low Down covers it all from short to tall, and here is one of the tall. He has/had the same sort of issues we all have.. well worth a listen in my humble opinion
As usual the shows are outstanding. Great food for thought David. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering what George the Giant would be doing for a career if he were a foot shorter?
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to hear what his other aspirations in life were besides performing.
I don't feel that he should resign himself to that lifestyle. If he is comfortable, succesful etc, that is fine. But I don't feel that my only two choices in life should be a horse jockey or a freak because I am short.
Good question anon. Perhaps a follow up interview is in order.. but my guess is he would still be in show business, as that sort of performing is "in the blood" as it were. I hope that the podcast didnt leave you with the impression that a short statured height leaves you with only two options, but, its also important to realize there is nothing wrong with those choices either. Actually, I am kind of hoping the podcast is proving that any feeling of limitations on choices due to our height is strictly self imposed. George always struck me as being quite happy with his choice and he is doing quite well. His height didnt force him into that career, rather he took what he felt to be an asset and worked with it as opposed to seeing it as limiting. You can do anything you want to do. I hope I never hear " he's too short to be a surgeon, or a rocket scientist. There have been studies saying that shorter candidates tend to lose elections, but, then again, recent elections have proven that there is still room for "firsts." The question is, would "YOU" not run because of your height.
